The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Vision for 2030 is to make the Nordic region the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. The energy sector has a key role to play in the transition to a sustainable society. The phasing out of fossil fuels is one of the most burning issues of our time, where the Nordic region has good prospects for contributing to the transition to sustainable and green energy solutions.

When switching to new energy solutions under the vision of a sustainable Nordic region, it is important that the energy sector does not overlook the importance of inclusion and co-determination. The vision of a sustainable Nordic region is also the vision of an integrated Nordic region, and the involvement of civil society is a common thread through the Nordic Council of Ministers’ action plan. The transition to a low-emission society with new energy solutions has different distributional effects,  and is not perceived as an advantage by everyone.
