In January, Nordic Energy Research will host two side events during Arctic Frontiers, Norway’s largest conference for the Arctic and High North. The conference gathers people from academia, politics, government, and business to discuss developments in the north, and we are looking forward to giving and gaining insights into Nordic-Arctic energy research and cooperation live on-site in Tromsø.

Building Sustainable Energy Futures for Arctic Communities

📅 Monday, 27 January at 15:30

Join us in constructive dialogue on how to break down silos and enable a sustainable energy transition in the Arctic, built in favour of the Arctic environment and communities!

The Arctic region experiences unique challenges and opportunities when it comes to achieving sustainable energy that provides a just and secure future for its communities. The region stands in the forefront of climate changes and possesses unique cultural capital and deep connections to nature. Hence, a sustainable energy transition must co-exist with nature and the values of local communities.

An inspiring number of initiatives and projects are undertaken in Nordic and Arctic countries, which bring different contributions to the common objective of accelerating the transition to green energy.

This event will provide favourable conditions for Arctic and Nordic energy stakeholders across sectors to discuss technical solutions, community engagement, business model frameworks, and environmentally friendly solutions. How can these solutions drive a green transition in the Arctic in ways that are socially sustainable, self-sufficient, attractive for investments, and potentially capable of exporting clean energy to other regions?

Speakers:

  • Tom Wills, Voar Energy, the Shetland Islands
  • Halla Nolsøe Poulsen, Director, NORA, the Faroe Islands
  • Michael Ross, Industrial Research Chair, Northern Energy Innovation, Yukon University, Canada

More speakers to be announced.
