How can we best empower equality in the Nordic energy value chain? This is the core question of this year’s Nordic Energy Challenge, where we have invited all types of stakeholders to contribute with solutions to the theme of 2025 – Powering Nordic Equality.
Now, we are pleased to present one of the jury members of 2025, who is highly qualified to assess the project proposals: Halla Nolsøe Poulsen, Chair of the Gender Equality Commission in the Faroe Islands, and Director of NORA, the Nordic Atlantic Cooperation. As Chair of the Gender Equality Commission, Halla works with advising authorities, institutions, companies and individuals on equality issues, and we asked her to elaborate on the topic of Powering Nordic Equality.
“A just energy transition must also be a gender-equal one. Women are underrepresented in the energy sector, which limits innovation and progress. Promoting gender equality ensures access to the full talent pool and leads to more inclusive, effective solutions,” says Halla.

Why is it important to integrate equality perspectives, high environmental ambitions, and cooperation in a cultural transition at the Nordic level?
“Equality, environmental ambition, and collaboration are key to a sustainable cultural shift. To succeed with the green transition in the Nordics, we must include all voices, all competencies—across sectors, borders, and genders.”
As a jury member in 2025, what are your hopes for the proposals of this year’s Nordic Energy Challenge?
“I hope to see bold, inspiring ideas that show how gender equality and green transformation can go hand in hand. Projects that build cooperation, deliver real impact, and help shape a more inclusive Nordic energy future.”
